Canoe Paddlers Camp (CPC)
Boating the way they used to do it… you will spend the week on and off campus learning everything you need to know to navigate flat and moving water without getting wet! Instruction begins on campus where you will learn technique and safety in a super-fun atmosphere. Expeditions down the Fall Creek and around Geist Reservoir will be planned for any groups passing daily evaluations of each key lesson. Please pack a swimsuit, water shoes that will stay on your feet, towel and change of clothes every day and seal any “damageable” in waterproof bags.
Cooking Camp (COC)
This camp is a big hit with guys and girls. Campers will learn the skills needed to survive in any kitchen and even some introductory techniques for cooking over a campfire. Your camper will plan a basic menu and then prepare it. Cooking skills will be honed by making both edible and inedible recipes (for example, they will follow a recipe for making play dough before mixing up chocolate chip cookies). Cooking camp will begin with an orientation in cooking equipment and appliances (including safety and cleaning). Your camper will be taught the “do’s” and “don’ts” in food handling. They will be instructed in general nutrition values. The goal of this camp is to encourage them in confidence and independence so that they can and will be helpful at home. Also stressed is the completion of each task from the initial planning to the final cleaning and putting away of each utensil and being a host with a servant’s heart. Finally, some basic kitchen safety and first aid will be taught.
Crafty Creations (CCC)
Your creative 7-9 year old will love this camp. The goal of this camp is to engage your camper’s imagination in constructive creations. They will make a variety of these creations. Your camper will learn drawing techniques beginning with observation of people, plants and animals. We will assemble both usable crafts (like bug boxes, bird houses or vases), and artsy pieces (tie-dyed clothing, collages, puppets) to express ideas and emotions. Counselors will stress planning and clean up as a necessary part of any creation and teach these aspects and principles as related to God’s creation.
DINO Adventure-Racing Day Clinic
Camp Indy will host a day long clinic in partnership with the D.I.N.O Racing series and Qdoba Mexican Grill. This is a camp focused on teaching your camper better biking skills, but will offer elective workshops in rock climbing, paddling, orienteering and advanced mountain biking. The clinic is all day Saturday June 25th. Frisbee Camp (FC)
This camp is designed so that campers can learn to play a variety of games using a Frisbee; Ultimate Frisbee, Frisbee Golf, Disc Baseball, and many more. If you like playing with a Frisbee you’ll love this camp!
Hook, Line & Sinker (HLS)
The “How To’s” of fishing… your camper will play games and run exercises that will teach them skills involved in casting, hook tying, live and artificial baiting, and cleaning their catch. Campers will fish at the pond on Camp Indy’s property and catch and return Blue Gill, Bass, and Catfish. They will learn to use bait including earthworms, and bee moths. Special attention will be given to teaching campers water safety and respect for creation. Please bring your own pole and reel, a tackle box with your name and address written in permanent ink and basic tackle including an assortment of hooks, sinkers, bobbers and any interesting lures.
Horseback Camp (HBC)
Whether you’re an animal lover, wanna-be cowpoke, or have a desire to explore the basics in horsemanship, this camp is the place to be. Horseback campers will learn basics in riding, horse care, equestrian equipment, and practice each daily at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Horse Barn. This camp will focus on life lessons in responsibility, following directions, and appreciation for God’s creation. Please wear old clothes to this camp — long pants and tough shoes (preferably boots with a heel) are REQUIRED for the morning session (pack shorts and sandals for the rest of the day). Limit of one HBC per camper in this popular camp! The cost of this camp is $200.
Mountain Bike Camp (MBC)
This camp is no Sunday stroll, but a fun and intense experience as you bomb down the new trails that wind through our hilly woods with plenty of climbs, downhills, tight turns, and obstacles to maneuver around and over. We will use the roads, lawns, and trails on our 98 acre wooded property to learn basic bike maintenance and trail riding skills. Counselors will stress stewardship and apprecation of creation as well as teach campers trail maintenance. You must provide a helmet and bike equipped with front and rear brakes and a gear system. Your bike may be stored at Camp Indy for the week that you attend MBC.
Music Lovers Camp (MLC)
The camp if your child is a natural performer, plays an instrument, or just sings in the shower. This camp includes elementary voice instruction, exploration of various instruments, and discussion on popular music, simple songwriting, and use of music in worship. If your child is taking any kind of music lessons, please bring their instrument for “show and tell”. It is the goal of this camp to encourage your camper to listen to the ideas of others and then to express their own ideas and emotions in song. Your camper will perform what they have learned and created during our Friday closing ceremony. Feel free to join us at 3pm.
Outdoor Adventure (OAC)
Outdoor adventure camp is all about hiking, nature discoveries, cookouts, and overnight camping. We will use our challenge course (including a 40′ climbing tower) at Camp Indy to teach your camper skills in communication, teamwork, and trust. Lessons in good stewardship of creation, building friendships and community will be stressed. Your camper will attend Camp Indy as a day camp until Thursday of his or her week. Rain or shine, Thursday afternoon and evening mark the start of the real adventure — campers will learn to choose appropriate camping sites, assemble a tent, and build a fire. That night will be filled with camp songs and fireside discussions. Your camper will have breakfast in the cafeteria and then head to the wall at 9:30am Friday morning. You are welcome to come and see your camper climb toward the top.
***4th Fest is our “special” OAC camp offered Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the week of 4th of July. CAMP CLOSED Monday. “Special” rate of $160 includes extended care fees and hours. Think OAC with added “special” festival activities to commemorate our national holiday.
Out On a Ledge (OOL)
Your campers will be pushed to their limit and learn to trust their friends, equipment and the skills they’ve practiced. Campers will spend their mornings on Camp Indy’s 40-foot climbing tower and learn the basics of lead climbing, belaying and rappelling with a focus on equipment, safety and technique involved in each discipline. Counselors will address health issues in extreme sports such as the impact and importance of stretching; strength and endurance training, proper rest, sleep and diet. Practical spiritual lessons on faith, trust and the appreciation of God’s creation will be addressed. Parents are welcome to come and observe.
Potter and Clay (PAC)
How amazing it is to start out with a lump of clay and by the end of the two weeks have shaped, glazed, and fired a masterpiece – and your camper can with the Potter and Clay Camp! This camp allows your camper to use their creative side to learn how to throw a pot on the wheel or design one by hand. All skill levels welcome.This is a two week camp with a cost of $320 for both weeks.
Road Trip Camp (RTC) Week 6
GRAB A SEAT! Road Trip Camp is offered to 10-13 year-old campers during the week of the 4th of July. Campers will travel to see the sights of Indianapolis as well as give back to our community by visiting a nursing home to play games with the elderly. Bus transportation will be provided.
Work of Art (WOA)
Do you have a 10-13 year old who would love to experience art on new horizons? In this camp, campers will have opportunities to draw, paint, sculpt, and more to express the creativity that is in their hearts and minds. Campers will focus their efforts on one to three main works of art for the week. The great outdoors holds so many possibilities for creative experiences and inspiration. We’re excited to see your camper’s works of art!
Wet and Wild Swim (WWS)
There is no better way to keep cool on a hot summer day. Whether your camper swims like a fish or requires a floaty, Camp Indy has instructors and a life-guarding staff to teach your camper all about fun in our pool. Also joining us are swim team members from area high school teams. Campers will learn stroke techniques (free style, breast stroke, back stroke, and the butterfly), games and water safety. It is the goal of this camp to provide your camper with the skills and confidence required to execute the correct series of decisions and actions involved in any and every waterfront situation–regardless of whether that is a swimming competition or a waterfront emergency. Please bring a towel, swimsuit (one piece for ladies), sandals, a change of clothes and inexpensive goggles (you can purchase these for less than $10.00 at Wal-Mart or Target).
